Description
The Berlin-Rummelsburg railway station is a former goods station and current service station in the Berlin district of Rummelsburg in the district of Lichtenberg. It is planned to convert the existing station. The reason for this is the gradual replacement of the previous IC fleet and ICE trains of the first and second generation by new vehicle generations ICx and the need for changed track lengths (replacement of trains formed from single wagons by multiple units).
The aim of the restructuring of the track layout in the BRGBA area is the dissolution of the many switches and shunting tracks in favour of an internal cleaning system on island platforms and the creation of sufficiently long stabling and treatment tracks for the new ICx fleet as well as the renewal of obsolete facilities.
