Project Activities

  • Study of the present socio-economic situation of the study area and assessment of its future development, in particular of the agricultural potential and production of the Juba river valley, both with and without the road. With regard to the future development of the study area, various scenarios were conceived, taking into consideration the agricultural production resulting from the planned Bardera dam
  • Analysis and forecast of traffic
  • Complete preliminary design including extensive geotechnical studies (predominantly black cottonsoil), meteorological and hydrological investigations, alignment alternative, design standards and pavement types/materials, and financial and economic costs and benefits in the form of the value added which could be directly attributed to the planned road (additional production resulting from the cultivation of existing and new crops, lower degree of spoilage, cultivation of more sensitive agricultural products and trading of animals)
  • Estimate of road-user benefits and value-added benefits and detailed cost/benefit analysis of all project alternatives, giving due consideration to intangibles.
