Description

The overall objective of the project was to initiate the development of a multi-modal transport network within the Republic of Turkey, extending the European Union's TEN-T into the territory of Turkey, and towards the regions of Middle and Far East, Caucasus and further beyond.

During several phases of the project, the consortium including Dorsch Consult Verkehr und Infrastruktur GmbH carried out a full scale corridors and networks assessment. The assessment was based on the technical characteristics of the network, as well as on several indicators describing the performance of the corridors and network. The elaboration of the network was based on a multi-modal transport forecast until 2020. The assessment of the performance was the main tool to define the network (backbone and additional network components), to report its inadequacies (expected bottlenecks, inter-modal requirements etc.) and to define the priorities for implementation.

The consortium made a systematic assessment of the basic technical and economic characteristics of the projects which were proposed for the implementation of the network. The corresponding results were included in the multi-criteria analysis developed for the prioritisation process covering TEN-T and TINA guidelines, EC’s High Level Group criteria etc.
