Construction supervision phase

  • Additional design & redesign of interchanges, approach roads, structures & service roads
  • Establishment of a central advisory team to assist the client in technical management during project implementation
  • Advisory services on 10 construction sites for the purpose of assisting the client in project management
  • Supervision of construction work & all installations
  • Quality control testing of construction materials & installations
  • Checking & approval of contractors´ payment statements, including processing of variation orders & claims for extra payment & extensions of time
  • Pre-handover checking of completeness of construction work & all installations prior to issuance of Certificate of Substantial Completion
  • Preparation of construction reports & as-built drawings
  • On-the-job training of personnel appointed by the client.

Description

The Iraq Expressway No One, the first in a planned network of national highways in Iraq, links Jordan & Syria to the north of Iraq with Kuwait in the south via Baghdad & Basra. As a four to six-lane expressway stretching over a total of 1,250 km, it is by far the largest expressway project in the Middle East.

DORSCH CONSULT carried out the feasibility study & the entire detailed design, including the preparation of tender documents, between 1975 & 1977. The design was based on the latest German expressway standards.

Construction supervision by DORSCH CONSULT commenced in 1979. The expressway was subdivided into ten construction sections.
