Description

In 1970, the Portuguese Government decided to proceed with the planning of a new international airport (Lisbon II) in Lisbon. This new airport was intended to relieve the existing airport at Lisbon-Portela from congestion and unsatisfactory flight operations and become, after a transition period, the new gateway airport for Portugal with a projected air traffic demand for the year 2000 of 37.5 million passengers per annum.

DORSCH CONSULT, in joint venture with two other German consulting firms, completed the masterplanning, preliminary design and various technical and financial studies in 1972. From early 1972 to the end of 1973 the joint venture provided technical advisory services to the Portuguese Ministry of Transport regarding the further design of Lisbon II International Airport.
